Winebow trip - Tuscany - May 15-24, 2004

Day 7

The villa at Altesino between Montalcino and Sienna.  It was constructed in the 1400s.  This was the third of our three favorite stops.

View from Altesino of Montalcino on the hill in the distance.

50 hectoliter oak foudre at Altesino - typical for aging wine

The villa at Altesino was undergoing renovation at the time of our visit.  The crest above the door was from the original construction and indicated the year from the 1400s, which I don't recall.

Lunch at Altesino with our host, Guido Orzalesi at top center next to Janice.  Truly awesome food and wine.

The inn at La Parrina in Albinia.  This is where we stayed the night.  La Parrina is a working farm and there is a farm store to the right of the inn that sells produce and dairy products from the farm to the local populace.

The soil at La Parrina was atypically red - like Georgia.

The proprietor of La Parrina in red vest giving us the vineyard overview.

Hilltop view at La Parrina.  The Mediterranean is in the distance.
