Winebow trip - Tuscany - May 15-24, 2004

Day 4

View from Castellare in Castellina-in-Chianti, looking west towards San Gimignano.

Our Dutch-born host at Castellare leads us through the tasting - and lunch, of course (note proscuitto on plate in forground - which I probably had three times a day while in Tuscany)

At right is the drying room at Castellare, where grapes are hung from wires to dry for production of Vin Santo.

The church in Castellina-in-Chianti

View from Nittardi winery near Castellina-in-Chianti

Gates to the 1100s era home at Nittardi, once owned by Michaelangelo

The house at Nittardi

The winery at Nittardi.  The German owner is a patron of the arts, evidenced by this sculpture from an artist that also designed one of the wine labels.

At right - sitting area in our room at Hotel Villa Bianca in Gambassi Terme - the nicest place we stayed on the trip.
