Winebow trip - Tuscany - May 15-24, 2004

Day 3

Elisabetta in Cecina.  We stayed in the Inn (building on right) after day 2.  Owners residence on left.

Prosecco with Elisabetta's owner, Luigi Brunetti (behind bar) in his home.  Luigi was a fairly well known chef and worked extensively in Germany before returning to Tuscany to open the winery.  Tour leader Massimo Squitieri of Winebow in foreground.

Our group with Luigi in his home built in the 1700s for use as a barn.  Note the brick vaulted ceiling.  Sorry for the grainy pic.

After touring Elisabetta, Luigi took us on an unplanned side-trip to Bolgheri on the coast.  Those of you in the wine-know realize Bolgheri is home to one of the most famous Italian wineries in recent years - Tenuta San Guido - maker of the famous Sassacaia.  This was another picture taking snafu in that I forgot the camera on the Bus.  The fortress town was very quaint and devoid of tourists.  We had Prosecco in a wine shop in the town owned by an acquaintance of Luigi.  There I procured a bottle of Syrah from the Cortona estate Bramasole - made famous by the book/movie "Under A Tuscan Sun".

The gate at San Gimignano.  This fortress hill town is a popular tourist destination.

View from same position as above - in a different direction.

At right - inside San Gimignano's walls a street view with one of seven towers in the background.

Below - The church on the square.
