Winebow trip - Tuscany - May 15-24, 2004

Day 2

Fabrizio Pratesi in leather jacket at the Pratesi winery in Carmignano.

Lunch at Le Calvane.  We did a lot of this.  Two brothers in rear hosted us - I forget their names.

The two brothers from Le Calvane outside the winery in Montagnana Val di Pesa.

Entering a cellar at Le Calvane - formerly an underground passage to a nearby monastery.

Vinyards at I Guisti E Zanza in Fauglia.  Paolo Giusti at right.  He makes the most large-scaled concentrated wines that we tasted during the trip from Sangiovese, Cabernet, Merlot and newly added Syrah plantings.  Too bad we don't have any of his stuff in the stores.

Concrete tanks at I Giusti E Zanza.  We tasted directly from tanks and barrels here.  The fresh pecorino with pine nuts - somewhere on this table - was some of the best cheese we had.

Sundown at I Giusti E Zanza.
