At the Bouchard gate of Montrachet. The most expensive Chardonnay in the world comes from this 20 acre vinyard. Some of the various owners have constructed gates along this road by their parcels, making it easy to find among the vinyards of Puligny- and Chassagne-Montrachet.
Here
is the gate for Leflaive:
Domaine Thenard gate
Chevaliers-Montrachet - just above Montrachet on the slope. Wines from this site are often priced only at half-stratospheric levels of Montrachet.
View of Pommard from Volnay:
Chateau L'ange Gardien in Chorey-les-Beaune. The proprietor, Pierre is a friend of the Voaricks. We lunched here and tasted Pierre's wines. He makes a fine Cremant d'Bourgogne of which we drank regularly during our stay. He intentionally makes Pinot's to age and holds them for and extended time before release. We tasted some from the 99 vintage and the ageability was apparent as the wines were austere with a tightly wound, unyielding core of fruit. Pierre and his wife reside near Pommard and are renovating the house seen here for use as an Inn.
At
L'ange Gardien - our rental Renault Laguna wagon was a fine economical,
comfortable ride and big enough to make us feel at home, but not too big to
squeeze through some of the tight village streets in Burgundy.
